Review: Vain - Fisher Amelie

Vain (The Seven Deadly, #1)

Review: Vain - Book #1 Seven Deadly Sins Series - Fisher Amelie - December 2012

Imagine what you would be like if you were rich and wealthy ? If you had everything you ever needed at your fingertips and ontop of that , you were the most beautiful thing around and just with a snap of your fingers, you could have anything or anyone you wanted ? No matter what the consequences were, you just didn't have a care in the world ? For Sophie Price, she was just like that - partying every night with her trustfund friends, getting wasted , sleeping with her friends boyfriends -simply because she could and in her mind it was to justify a point that they obviously weren't good boyfriend material if they would cheat at the drop of a hat. One night though, things go a little too far and Sophie's life starts to spiral a bit out of control which leads her parents mainly her father -to put his foot down. Sophie ends up in court and instead of a fine or community service , she finds herself sentenced for six months to Uganda, Africa where she will be working in an orphanage run by Pembroke's friends. Sophie travels to Uganda and meets Ian - one of the workers , at first she acts like the spoilt brat that she has been all her life, but as the story goes on and Sophie sees firsthand what its like for those who don't have the opportunities that she took for granted or even nessecities like clothes, running water etc. Her heart slowly starts to thaw and we see gradually a change in Sophie's personality.  What I liked about this book was that it was a gradual change and not immediately with a click of the fingers and a quick change of the page as some authors dive too quick into making the characters go from one extreme to the other and as readers, we are left thinking - thats so unrealistic as they couldnt change just like that. I personally loved this story with the orphanage twist as ever since I was a young girl, I have always wanted to go overseas and work in an orphanage or a community where the children need guidance and help.  I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the Seven Deadly Sins series by Fisher Amelie.
